Biology Teacher - Mr Shermer:
You need milk
Brooklyn:
What?
Mr. Shermer:
You need milk with that.
Brooklyn:
Milk? What are you talking about?
Mr. Shermer:
It’s an ol recipe for…
Brooklyn:
This isn’t some leftover dessert from the cafeteria, Mr. Shermer.
Mr. Shermer stands by the door, pressing his hand against the door.
8:16am
Mr. Shermer:
Flush the toilets.
Brooklyn:
What?
Mr. Shermer:
NOW!
Brooklyn:
Which one?
Mr. Shermer:
It’s in both?!
Brooklyn turns back to the second toilet stall.
8:17am
Mr. Shermer walks up to the first stall and flushes the toilet.
FLUSH.
Brooklyn presses the toilet lever in stall two down.
GIRGLE.
Brooklyn:
It’s not flushing!
Then get out of there and put it back into the trays.
SWOOSH
The second toilet sucks up the remaining jell-o matter
Mr. Shermer:
Cover-up the cart and follow me. Hurry! There’s no time to waste.
8:18am
The bathroom door bangs open.
Brooklyn bursts out sweating, shoving a metal chem-lab cart.
Two aluminum trays rattle on the top shelf.
Under the lids, a thick pink gel sloshes and swells.
Mr. Shermer books it down the hall ahead of him.
MR. SHERMER:
Follow me. End of the hall, come on.
BROOKLYN:
It’s vibrating, Mr. Sherm, It feels heavy.
MR. SHERMER:
Don’t look at it. Just keep it steady. Do not let those lids pop open.
⏱️ [08:19 AM]
INT. CHEMISTRY LAB
Mr. Shermer shoves the heavy lab door open.
Brooklyn steers the squealing cart inside, parking it by a lab table.
The pink mass is literally lifting the aluminum lids now.
Mr. Shermer yanks open the small staff fridge.
He thumps a plastic crate of school milk cartons down onto the table.
MR. SHERMER:
Open them. Pour them right on top. There’s no time to waste.
BROOKLYN:
Milk? Why milk?
MR. SHERMER:
The calcium bonds the polymer matrix. It slows the expansion. Pour!
They rip the spouts open, dumping four cartons at once.
Opaque white milk pools over the pink mass with an angry hiss.
The swelling grinds to a halt.
⏱️ [08:20 AM]
BROOKLYN:
Wow. It stopped.
MR. SHERMER:
Look closer. But dry your forehead first. One drop of human sweat will counter react the milk and make your school project expand again.
Brooklyn leans his head downward. Under the milk, rhythmic ripples pulse beneath the pink skin.
Mr. Shermer cracks open the yellow hazardous chemical cabinet.
He pulls out an amber glass jug and a massive plastic syringe.
He tears the wrapper open with his teeth.
BROOKLYN:
What is that?
MR. SHERMER:
Glacial acetic acid. It’ll drop the pH and destroy the bonds.
He jams the long needle in, drawing thick, clear liquid into the chamber.
⏱️ [08:21 AM]
Mr. Shermer steps back to the cart, holding the loaded syringe.
MR. SHERMER:
Hold the trays down. Both hands.
BROOKLYN
Wait!
Brooklyn frantically changes gloves. He tosses the removed gloves to the trash can but misses.
MR. SHERMER:
Brooklyn, now hold the edges down-or it breaks the jacket. Get busy!
Brooklyn hesitates, then grabs the cold aluminum rims.
Mr. Cazadero plunges the needle straight through the plastic lid.
He buries it deep into the moving pink core and slams the plunger.
A sharp, violent hiss rips through the room.
A heavy smell of burning vinegar hits them instantly.
The pink mass shrivels into a bruised gray, weeping fluid.
It collapses into a dead, stagnant puddle of slime.
⏱️ [08:22 AM]
The room goes dead quiet, except for the low hum of the vent fan.
Mr. Shermer sets the empty syringe down with a soft clack.
He slides his glasses down his nose and looks right at Brooklyn.
They both study the pink mass gradually separating with a blank stare.
8:23am
MR. SHERMER:
Unbelievable. What a mess. Soo.. what kind of project was it again?
BROOKLYN
Is it... dead?
MR. SHERMER
DEAD? What…what were you trying to do…clone an ex girlfriend?!
BROOKLYN:
A pet from my childhood.
MR. SHERMER:
A jelly fish?
BROOKLYN:
Remember that movie The Blob?
MR. SHERMER:
Yes! 1958 sci-fi horror. Wasn’t The Blob based on an actual police report back in the fifties?
8:24am
BROOKLYN:
Right!
For the longest time it was purple. But right before the school year began, it began to glow a strange red, lighting up the entire basement.
MR. SHERMER:
Okay. Wait a minute. You mean to tell me you had this thing sitting in your momma’s basement all these years?
Brooklyn looks up at Mr. Shermer with deep concern.
BROOKLYN:
Not exactly.
The pink mass in both trays begin to glow, lighting up the chem lab classroom with a deep red ambiance glow. Masking the classroom with a red eerie glow just like how it did in his mom’s basement.
8:25am
Mr. Shermer begins to laugh hysterically, like a mad scientist who just lost his mind.
Brooklyn steps back, away from Mr. Shermer.
BROOKLYN:
Mr. Shermer!
Mr. Shermer!!
Mr. Shermer!!!
Mr. Shermer snaps out of his hysterics. He walks up to Brooklyn, poking his right index finger firmly against Brooklyn’s forehead, cheek, and chin.
MR.SHERMER:
I always thought you were the school blob but you… you have taken blobbery to a whole new level.
8:26am
BROOKLYN:
You’re losing it…
MR. SHERMER:
To you, my little slimy friend, are to address me as Doctor Shermer.
BROOKLYN:
Slimy? What the…have you lost your mind, Mr, Sherm?
Brooklyn begins to step back again.
The room with its red glow, begins to drop in temperature.
A cold chill begins to seep through the air.
MR. SHERMER:
You are not who we all thought you are. No. No, you are nothing but a morpheous synthetic creature with human flesh, calculating your consumption of…soft tissue and bone!
BROOKLYN:
No!
8:27am
But if I were you’d be my first victim.
Brooklyn’s body begins to convulse uncontrollably, spitting out purple blobs of purple gel matter, drooling non-stop with slime from his narrow chin.
Brooklyn’s face begins to scowl, letting out a rumbling, violent hiss while his arms stretch outward.
His elbows pop the moment his bones disconnect.
Mr. Shermer freezes. His hands clinches onto the tray handles.
He grabs the remaining milk cartons, opens them to splash milk onto Brooklyn.
8:28am
The red glow shuts off.
The entire chem-lab becomes lit by its fluorescent light.
The classroom door slams open.
Brooklyn’s classmates enter into the classroom and scream out loud in unison.
20 STUDENTS:
Trick-or-Treat, Mr. Sherman!
Brooklyn begins to laugh to the point of crying.
BROOKLYN:
Haha… you should have seen the look in your eyes, Mr. Sherm! Haha
But while Brooklyn and the rest of his classmates are mocking Mr. Shermer with their ritualistic rhetoric, he collapses onto the floor.
Brooklyn begins to morph into the blob.
His head first.
8/29am
A red round jell-o blob head consumes Brooklyn’s teen sized head.
MR. SHERMER:
Run!
GO!
The students ignore his commands and continue to laugh at him.
Mr. Shermer walks up closer to Brooklyn.
Mr. Shermer does not let go of the lab cart.
His eyes lock onto Brooklyn.
STUDENTS:
1-Why is there so much milk on the floor?
2-Right?!
3-What a mess!
4-Mr. Shermer… are you okay?
Brooklyn’s body trembles while his body morphs into a large mass of red jell-o.
BROOKLYN:
Mwahahaha
Mwahahahaha
Mwahahahahaha
End of Chapter 2.
Chapter 3 will be released on NATIONAL ABSURDITY DAY (11.20.26).
